Our Mountain Get-Away

Bill rented a car for the 2-1/2 hour drive up to our vacation spot (a photo of the car is way down below). We stopped for a bit of brunch in Asheville at "Tupelo Honey Cafe". I had Eggs Betty, which was poached eggs on a biscuit with Hollandaise sauce. It was fabulous. Bill had Eggs Crawley, which was eggs with crab cakes and asparagus. They served our food with a basket of extra-delicious hot biscuits and fresh tasting raspberry jam. We drank mimosas as we sat outside. I heartily recommend Tupelo Honey.
When we got to Sevierville, fairly close to our destination, we stopped at Kroger for some supplies. Bill wanted some wine, but oddly enough, the good people of Tennessee seem to group wine in with liquor, so it is not sold in grocery stores. So our next stop was a winery, where we bought a few bottles of wine. Here we are at the winery.
If you click on this photo and enlarge it, you can read the sign on this wedding chapel. It says "Drive through ceremony". Never saw that before!
As we continued up the mountain, we came across a forest fire! What is it with us and fires, huh? If you recall, we also encountered a fire on our Charleston trip. See the flames?

We made it up to the - gag - ugh - Preserve Resort (which is the previous post, if you'd like to see THAT terror) and quickly high-tailed it back down the mountain where we found this sign for Volunteer Cabin Rentals.
This is their office.
They had just what we wanted. This is where we spent the weekend. Thanks Volunteer Cabin Rentals! Screw you, Preserve Resort! (There's the car, by the way.... very comfortable and luxurious.)

Entering the cabin.

Lovely deck. Notice the lack of other cabins?
This is the sun coming up on Saturday morning, looking out off the upper deck.
The pool table. (Close quarters, but we had a lot of fun with it anyway)
The magic room :)
This jacuzzi tub was in the bathroom downstairs, right by the bedroom.
Here's Bill on the lower deck.
Bill lines up his shot.
Yes, I played pool in my jammies... Hey we were on vacation!!
This is looking down the road from in front of the cabin.
and this is looking up the road....
The view was nice.
The road was steep....
We used the fireplace at night, although it took quite a while for us to figure out how to turn on the tv. It suddenly came to us one morning in a moment of sobriety.
The kitchen.
Bill in the hot tub. The hot tub was great! We liked it very much when a coolish wind was blowing and we cozied down in the warm, warm water.
The day we had to leave.... So sad. But we'll definitely be back.
Oh, and on the way out of Pigeon Forge I saw this. Who knew there were Beef Jerky Outlets?

Do NOT Go To The Preserve Resort

The link that I put in the previous post had pictures of where we had reservations. It was supposed to be romantic, secluded, etc. It SOOOOO was not. And the people there, especially some official-acting woman named Marty, were rude and awful. I would never go there again or recommend it to anyone else. We did not stay here.

Here's the cabin. The view from the cabin.
Look at the porch! That's where the hot tub is. I'll tell you, there would be no romantic hot-tubbing here! (Hey, nice luggage down there....)
This was a trailer park of cabins.
The pool.

Sam posed for pictures!

Awwwww.... She's so sweet! Mother's Day is coming up, too. Just wait. You all know what happens on Mother's Day! They BOTH pose for me. Together!

Bill sent these magnificent flowers!

And I was the envy of all my coworkers... :) They were extremely beautiful and fragrant. And large! And the card was extra sweet. A song lyric...

Thoroughly Modern Millie

Mike played Jimmy Smith in "Thoroughly Modern Millie". Here he is dipping Sarah Rutzen in a dance scene. Nice dip! Here's Mike belting it out in one of his songs...
