Trip to WNC Farmer's Market in Asheville

After Friday night's ball game, we got up Saturday morning and headed up to Ashevile to visit some farmer's markets. Traffic was really awful - wreck after wreck. So by the time we got there, we were starving. We ate at The Moose, right by the farmer's market.

This is my meal. I was expecting a farmer's market fresh meal. I was disappointed, as nothing except the cabbage on my plate tasted homemade. Bill's was chicken fried steak. He had mashed potatoes, which also did not taste homemade even though the description on the menu said they were. The only homemade tasting thing on Bill's plate was the pintos. It was tasty in a Cracker Barrel type way. Not homemade.

All that lack of homemade-ness wouldn't have been so bad, but for this sign.

Inside the market. Look at the bird feeders up there!

This is one of the market halls.

All the produce looked so beautiful.

We bought peaches.

A million types of honey!

We bought blackberries and blueberries.

Mmmmmm.... Fresh grapes.....

We bought potatoes, squash, and green beans. And corn, which I foolishly neglected to photograph because it was really beautiful.

We bought cabbage....

Finally, on the way home, we stopped and bought a chicken, which I placed in a nice buttermilk bath last night. It is resting comfortably in the refrigerator right now. Tonight? Fried chicken, homemade biscuits, green beans, corn, potaotes, fresh tomatoes and yep! blackberry cobbler!

You know you're jealoous...
