This tree in my yard fell as a result of a storm the previous day - July 8.
This tree, too. I left this picture pretty big, so if you click on it you can see the doghouse that tipped over and also the neighbor's barn got damaged.
This piece of crap, however, still stands. Amazing.
Apparently the storm blew this dog in, too. He was very fearful and must have been abused in the past. I stomped and hollered "GO AWAY!" and the poor little guy just laid down and whimpered. I left him alone after that, and he was gone the next morning.
A few weeks before those storms, Sam convinced me to pull up my dead snapdragons and put some baby flowers in that bed. So I did. Then after that, every leftover flower from a six-pack went in here. I like the assortment and the color. I must say, Samantha also approves.
These great big tall zinnias were one of those things where you think "Are they pretty or are they just tacky?" I decided I liked them and put them out front. They're doing well. So far. Something has started munching them, though. I need to buy a dust diffuser thingie to distribute my bug killer.
So I took two identical pots, see... and I filled them with identical Miracle Grow soil, see... Then I took pansies from the same batch and planted them, see..... OK. They sit side by side. I water them together. All things being equal, however, this one's dead....
And this one's alive. Hmmmpfff . Go figure.

An animal appeared in the field behind our house. We think it's an ass. Really! Sam gave it an apple and he was so cute eating it. He actually took little bites and held it down with his hoof while he bit it. I've never seen an animal do that except maybe one of those monkeys or pandas or something you see on Discovery channel.
Here's Mike after just returning from Bonnaroo. He's regaling us with stories about gallons of acid-laced lemonade being passed around and so on and so forth. He did not imbibe, naturally. He bought the shirt there. A good time was had by all. He saw acts from Willie Nelson to BB King to Metallica. Cool stuff. I wish I had been there.
Bill and I went to Carowinds with the intention of riding all the roller coasters. Unfortunately, a couple were closed, but we rode all the rest! Some of them multiple times. The lines were unbelievably short. Like this...
Last Saturday Bill treated Mike and me to dinner at Lavecchia's. Samantha works there. She would not allow me to photograph the inside. Darned shy kids... It was extra fun and the food was TO DIE FOR! Go there! Eat! It's divine. And naturally, Sam is the best waitress ever. Bill left a generous tip. Yay Bill! I let Sam choose my entree, which was stuffed jumbo shrimp. Mmmmm. Mike had pecan crusted tilapia, Sam's favorite dish there, which was also great. Bill had a steak, which I can honestly say was the best steak I've had in a very, very long time. For appetizers, I had a crab cake - delicious!, Mike had a calamari/artichoke/onion thing, which was a deep fried assortment, and Bill had an absolutely fabulous lobster and crab bisque. Yes, we had dessert. Oink. Again, I let Sam choose for me, and I had a delicious and decadent lemon blueberry cheesecake, Mike had a chocolate cheesecake and Bill had key lime pie. Afterwards, we walked the streets of Charlotte - past Spirit Square and looked at the new train system. Then drove home. It was a great night.
