Phoenix Trip - Part 6

After the welcoming pleasantness of Prescott, we headed to the Sonoran Desert National Monument. This picture shows a HUGE cutout or billboard or something of a baby. It looked super strange and I wish I'd gotten a better picture of it. It was just sitting out there. So weird..
Ha ha.... Let's see.... Prison? Surprise? Or Zoo? Oh, hey! They're all pointing the same way!
We got lost on our way to the desert, and stopped for gas and directions here. It was hot and dry and I felt like I was in a movie. It was too hot to get out of the car shoeless. Burned my feet. Bill asked some guys in this store which way to the Sonoran Desert Monument. They looked at him like he was crazy. They said "That's the desert, man. That's in the desert." Bill assured them that's what we wanted to do. They rolled their eyes (silly tourists.) and sent us in the right direction. Unfortunately, my sweet Bill has a tiny bladder and this place had no rest room.
So we stopped here. Sheep Camp. Where men are men and sheep are nervous.
The long long road through the desert looked like this all the way.
I expected less vegetation, but this is the Sonoran Desert. We waited in great anticipation for the Monument.
Finally, the sign. The monument's just up ahead! Yay!
This is the entrance to the monument. Impressive.
The Sonoran Desert National Monument is now closed to the public. Oddly, there were two people there when we arrived. A Yugoslavian immigrant and his wife. They were locals, and the guy had a penchant for politics. He and Bill had a heated discussion about George Bush (he was AGAINST Bush - in a big way - him and "that broad"). The woman finally was able to drag the guy back to their car.
We enjoyed the desert for a while.
A short while.
Then we were on our way!
