Road Trip - Day 5/6/7

Monday morning we hit up this house in Houston. They had a smallish shipment to load. Bill had a really nice guy named Mike who rode up there with us and helped him load. I learned to do inventory and also carried out some light stuff. I'm a mover!

This moving thing is more involved than you might think. It requires a great deal of abstract thinking. These boxed or wrapped or padded items need to be loaded as tightly as possible. It's like a big puzzle back there in the trailer. Here's Bill thinking it through.
I couldn't help but notice the neighbors' trash bags out by the curb. WTF could they possibly have done with all this coconut milk? These two bags are packed with individual serving size coconut milk cartons.
That night we stayed here. I was charmed by the hotel's size and its emptiness. It reminded me of "The Shining". We were the only people we saw after check-in and roamed the halls. It was really very huge - this picture doesn't even show the back wing.

All the halls were like this. Empty. Our door was hard to open - it had very obviously been kicked in a time or two. We did our laundry at this hotel. The washers worked fine, but it took about 2 hours to dry our clothes.
Here's Bill loading our stuff back up as we left. I will say the heat didn't work and the coffee pot didn't work. The coffee downstairs was awful. So all in all - not a place to return to.
Next day, day 6 I guess, we headed up to Beaumont to grab a small shipment from a warehouse, then back to Houston. We checked in at the Ramada Inn right on I45.
This is where the magic happens, folks. That's right. My blogging... (Yeah, we've been bringing our own pillows out of the truck)
Day 6 ended with dinner in the hotel restaurant and early to bed. I'm getting a cold Bill was kind enough to share with me.
This morning (Wednesday) I took this picture of the courtyard. The hotel is sort of 70's retro but pretty.
The lobby is pretty. And festive.

We ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant. I'm really plumping up on this trip! Too much road food. I had a bagel and juice, tyvm...
Another empty space occupied by only Bill and me. Uhm, is it us??
Today I think we're heading to the Veteran's cemetery to see my stepfather's grave, and going to do some shopping. I remember Fiesta being a really cool store and I'd like to hit up one of those. We kicked around the idea of going to the zoo or down to Kemah but the weather's just too cold and windy. At least the rain stopped...
Tomorrow we head up to Dallas bright and early (we have to leave the hotel by 6:00) . Then I think it's back here, then to St. Louis, then Minnesota, then Chicago, the home for Sam's birthday.
